Artist Statement

Originally from Sydney, I have spent a large part of my life living and working in the Hunter Valley.

I work in oils, mainly on linen and canvas. My style has developed over 20 years of painting. Often overpainting and scratching back and relaying the paint work.
I have tried to eliminate the ‘object’ in my work. Probably from the photographer eye, always looking at the object. In doing so , what is left is the energy of form and direction of effort. Once the object has been removed , the paint work becomes the focus and with oil, it shows its delicious consistency.

I began my career at National Art School but changed focus into Photography soon after. Studied Photography at the Institute of Technology , Broadway NSW. With apprenticeship under David Cummings. Started the first Ciba Chrome lab in Australia. Moved to Europe to continue career.
Worked with Charles Papavoine Amsterdam and triplo Colour Amsterdam for 8 years before returning to Australia to restudy Painting at TAFE Singleton . A three year course with Dorothy Wishney and later Mandy Davies. Life drawing was a passion for many years and I have been part of life drawing groups for many years.

I have exhibited in many group and Solo shows in the Hunter Valley. Works have found their way throughout Europe, Australia and USA
